Well, looking around there are a lot of us sailing on this very boat. Surprisingly, a few engineers have managed to follow their passion after completing engineering and have tasted true success.
Here’s a list of highly successful engineers who chose different career paths and became famous and known all over the world.
Riteish Deshmukh (CE)
An architect from Kamla Raheja College of Architecture, Riteish Deshmukh needs no introduction. Riteish starred in successful movies like Kya Kool Hai Hum, Bluffmaster, Malamaal Weekly, Ek Villain, Houseful Series, Grand Masti and much more.
He also holds a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. He currently possesses shares in an India-based architectural and interior designing firm named Evolutions.
Shankar Mahadevan (CSE)
You probably love Shankar Mahadevan’s songs, we guess. We love them. This singer and music composer holds a Software Engineering degree from Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology in Navi Mumbai, affiliated to Mumbai University.
He has been awarded the National Award four times, while 3 times the award for Best Male Playback Singer and once for Best Music Director. He is the founder of Shankar Mahadevan Academy which provides online music lessons in Indian music for students all over the world.
Kriti Sanon (ECE)
Kriti Sanon completed her B.Tech in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Uttar Pradesh. And she has said a lot about this in her interviews.
As you all know, she debuted her film career from Nennokadine, a Telugu blockbuster cast Mahesh Babu. And she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her first Bollywood film Heropanti.
Akkineni Nagarjuna (ME)
Very famous in South India, Nagarjuna holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the College of Engineering, Guindy. And he completed his Master of Science in Automobile Engineering from Eastern Michigan University.
A very renowned face in south Indian films, he is also a producer and television presenter in Telugu film and television industry. He has acted in more than 90 films as a lead actor throughout his career.
Taapsee Pannu (CSE)
Taapsee Pannu is a middle-class girl holding a Computer Engineering degree from the Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology in New Delhi. She worked as a software engineer in some MNCs.
She earlier worked in Telugu film industry and soon appeared in Bollywood films. Her movie “Naam Shabana” garnered her fame among Hindi movie lovers. She also appeared in movies like Baby and Pink, which are quite a commercial success.
Sushant Singh Rajput (ME)
When you search for MS Dhoni on Google, it’s most likely that you see this actor’s pictures ahead of MS Dhoni himself. Very famous for his role in the biopic of Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sushant Singh Rajput is a Mechanical Engineering drop out from Delhi College of Engineering.
He has a brilliant track record of competing at eleven engineering entrance examinations, scoring in all of them and also winning a national Olympiad in Physics. He dropped after completing three years at college to debut her television daily Pavitra Rishta.
Rowan Atkinson (EE)
Mr Bean as we all know him. A loved character among children as well as adults, Rowan Atkinson holds an engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from Newcastle University and Masters in the same branch of The Queen’s College, Oxford.
He was among the top 50 comedians ever according to a list published by The Observer. Mr Bean, a TV Show starring Rowan Atkinson, which ran between 1 January 1990 and 15 November 1995 was a massive success and garnered him a lot of fame and recognition among people all over the world.
Anil Kumble (ME)
If you watch cricket, you might know this cricket personality. Anil Kumble is the current head coach of the Indian cricket team and a former Indian cricketer. He also played for the Indian team leading as the captain.
This right-arm leg spin bowler is a Mechanical Engineer from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering. He took 619 wickets in Test cricket and remains the 3rd highest wicket-taker of all time in the world.
Sonu Sood (ECE)
Dabangg, R. Rajkumar, Jodhaa Akbar, Singh is Kinng are the movies, to name a few, from the career of this Electronics Engineer. Sonu Sood completed his education from Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering, Nagpur.
With his strong presence as a Villain in Telugu films, Sonu received Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Award for Best Villain and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor – Telugu for his work in the Telugu blockbuster, Arundhati.
Arvind Kejriwal (ME)
Arvind Kejriwal as you all know, the current Chief Minister of Delhi, is a graduate of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Kejriwal also worked in the Indian Revenue Services as a Joint Commissioner of the Income Tax Department in New Delhi.
He is the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party. Arvind holds the degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Tata Steel in 1989 and was posted in Jamshedpur. Kejriwal resigned in 1992, having taken leave of absence to study for the Civil Services Examination.
R Madhavan (ECE)
R Madhavan, the actor from the classic Rehna Hai Tere Dil Me and Tanu Weds Manu, holds a degree in Electronics Engineering. In 1988, Madhavan gained a scholarship to represent India as a cultural ambassador from Rajaram College, Kolhapur and spent a year in Stettler, Alberta, Canada as part of an exchange programme.
He returned to Kolhapur and completed his education. Apart from that, he also has been awarded as the best NCC Cadet in Maharashtra. He is trained by the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
Fawad Khan (CSE)
Fawad Khan, the actor from Pakistan, aspired to become an Aeronautical Engineer or a pilot before he entered into the fame industry. And for all those who don’t know, he is a graduate of the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Lahore.
Speaking of his educational status, Khan, at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne while receiving an award, said, “I couldn’t make money out of coding (Computer programming). I was a terrible computer engineer. I was down and I became an actor to make money.”
Vicky Kaushal (ECE)
The critically acclaimed actor is an Electronics and Telecommunications Engineer and had once, in an interview, revealed how his initial wish was to become an assistant director. You have seen him in the famous movie Masaan
Kartik Aaryan famous from his acting in “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” and its sequel but side by side he continued his studied as an engineer in D.Y. Patil College and received in the degree of engineering.
Kartik Aaryan family is well educated which justifies his educational qualifications. He completed his schooling from St. Paul’s school and kiddy’s school in Gwalior. After schooling, he shifted to Navi Mumbai to pursue engineering from DY Patil College, Mumbai, Maharastra.
Ameesha Patel (Biotech)
Ameesha Patel of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai fame got a degree from Boston University before stepping foot in the industry. She was a student of biotech engineering and graduated with a gold medal.
Ameesha studied at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and was the head girl for the academic year 1992–93 before heading overseas to study Bio-genetic engineering, which she studied for two years, and eventually switching to Economics at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.
Varun Grover (CE)
I am sure this name might be unheard but he has given a great contribution in Bollywood industry through his lyrics and creative writing in no. of movies like Masaan, Ankhon Dekhi, and the Gangs of Wasseypur series but before becoming a writer he has worked as software engineer in Pune for some time after completing his civil engineer from IIT BHU.
Ram Gopal Varma (CE)
Ram Gopal Varma is an Indian film director, screenwriter, casting director and producer who has given us many hits like Shiva, Rangeela etc. He is known for his works in Telugu cinema.
Ram has completed BE in Civil engineering V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College, Vijayawada but than also he has crazed on film direction and used to find out the time for his passion and his passion bring him to be a great director.
Kader Khan (CE)
Kader Khan one of the best comedian of his time. He has done a great acting in many super hit movies but can you believe it this great has completed his graduation in engineering and taught at M. H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering, Mumbai as a professor of Civil Engineering.
